Agriculture sector in the whole world is in distress due to climate change and regenerative AGRICULTURE and organic farming IS THE FUTURE to mitigate the adverse impacts. Increasing the land extent and inputs is not the solution to increase the productivity to cater the growing demand. We need to focus on modern and precise technology to increase yields, but as a small island nation, we need to incorporate more ancestral knowledge and traditional farming concepts to develop current farming practices to obtain a better yield per land extent.
“ Regenerative Agriculture is the future AND THAT FUTURE IS HERE ”

Owita Organics

Owita Organics was founded and operated by Directors of Vihangun Ariyarathne, Kushan Amarasinghe, Mahesh Wickramasinghe, Samitha Jayaweera and Anuradha Ransinghe, launched in 2017 as a retail organic market platform to connect organic farmers and consumers. It was founded identifying the need for certified organic food for the increased local demand at an affordable price.
Main role of Owita Organics is to act as a fare networking platform connecting organic farmers who struggled to find accessible markets to sell while linking consumers who complained that reliable organic products were not available to purchase from local markets. It’s a common umbrella that provides shelter to organic producers and consumers in the country.

Good Market Participatory Guarantee System (PGS)

The Good Market Organic Participatory Guarantee System-PGS (www.goodmarket.global) was started in 2013 by producers and consumers that want to make organic more accessible and affordable in Sri Lanka. PGS is an organic verification system that is well-suited to local markets and short supply farms who cannot cover the cost of export-level third-party certification. Producers and consumers volunteer their time to develop and maintain standards and systems, inspect farms, and ensure that products are organic. The Good Market Organic PGS is based on the organic standards of the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movements (IFOAM). In 2016, it officially became an IFOAM recognized PGS. Since 2013, Abba Agri’s CEO & Founder Anuradha has played different roles as a volunteer evaluator, volunteer coordinator and today working as a technical pool member providing technical inputs to develop the organic certification process for the Good Market PGS Committee.
